Piano at the Do-Re-Mi

Whether you aspire to play Bach or Alicia Keys, Do-Re-Mi dedicated piano instructors will help you become the pianist you want to be. Our faculty will introduce you to the fundamentals of sight reading, technique and theory, and incorporate your favorite songs into your lessons. You do not need a piano at home to start lessons; a simple full-size electronic keyboard will suffice for the first few months.

What’s the #1 reason to study the piano at the Do-Re-Mi?

Our retention rate is much higher than national average. Our piano instructors are warm and friendly, and get to know each student and parent on a personal level. We work with each individual or parent to craft a lesson plan that fits the student’s unique needs and favorite type of music. Whether you are a five year old taking his or her first lesson, aspiring pianist who wants to hone your piano skills or a seventy year old returning to the piano after many years or finding courage to make your life-dream of playing piano a reality - our teachers will share their love for the piano and help you set goals to achieve your musical aspirations.

What levels do you teach?

We teach all levels. Beginners of all ages (from 5 yrs) are welcome! Every teacher is qualified to teach your child from early beginner through late intermediate level, and many are qualified to teach the student at the advanced level - including competitions, exams and college preparation.

Do I need a piano to learn the instrument?

You do not need a piano at home to start lessons. While an acoustic piano is still preferable, a full-size electronic keyboard will suffice for the first 6 months. We’ll give you a simple keyboard to start before you get your own (subject to availability).

How qualified are Do-Re-Mi piano instructors?

Our piano instructors are university-trained, in the USA, Russia, South Korea and other countries. Russian piano teaching tradition is famous for its high standards, solid technical skills and expressive, emotional interpretation. The teachers bring in years of professional performance and teaching experience to your lessons. What is even more important, it is each teacher's personal interest, involvement in each student's progress, close relationship between a student and a teacher.

What will I learn from piano lessons at the Do-Re-Mi?

If you are a beginner, you learn the fundamentals of sight reading, technique and theory, and incorporate your favorite songs into your lessons. Intermediate and advanced students get familiar with a wide range or styles and further develop their technique, expression, memory, reading and, if interested, their performing skills.

Are there piano recitals?

Absolutely! We run a wide range of recitals, from intimate “piano lounges” on one of the school’s grand pianos, usually for the one-teacher studio, to formal spring “showcases”, in large halls. Admission is free, so you can invite all of your family and friends.
Some recitals serve as fundraisers, in which case there is a fee.

Students who mastered the basics and show interest in performing have opportunities to play in various auditions, competitions, and concerts, beyond the Do-Re-Mi in-school recitals.

such as the Piano Teachers Society of America, Music Educators Association, Rising Stars, MusicFest, and more. They successfully pass all levels of the RCM Certificate Program.

What is RCM Program and how can it help my child to be a better pianist?

As one of RCM's founding schools, The Do-Re-Mi has a many-year first-hand experience with the program. It's true that a few kids learn to play just because of their sheer love of music. Most kids in order to learn something need to experience success. They move from grade to grade in school. They have tournaments. They have belts of various colors.
RCM program provides young pianists and their families with the structure to see their progress. It's a flexible and comprehensive program of annual auditions where kids get grades and move from level to level. Really dedicated, hard-working students even have a chance to receive an associate degree after they pass 10th-grade exams!
Do you want to know more about the program, what it covers, how it's structured, what's required to succeed, and the main thing, would your child benefit from participating?
Please call us at 973-758-1500,  email info@doremi-nj.com, or request more info.
