Join us for the Livingston Scholastic Chess Summer Day Camp, a 5-day intensive offering kids ages 6-16 the opportunity to grow intellectually within a safe and fun environment: learning chess, playing games, and competing for prizes!
All are welcome, from beginners to up to 1600-rated players. Our diverse lineup of classes and activities and professional staff equip all students to learn chess knowledge and techniques needed to outplay opponents in a chess world full of information that can either help or stall chess understanding and development. Each small group is assigned a coach are divided by level and age so campers can maximize their learning. The section that caters to beginners equips them with level-appropriate skills.
The day routine might differ from week to week, but every day campers will have two 60-min lessons where we solve puzzles, analyze games, and discover new ideas about our favorite game and two 45-min tournament-style games. Each week will be completed with a rated USCF tournament.
Children might have a chance to compete against their coaches in a simul exhibition (one coach takes on any challengers), and participate in the bughouse tournament.
After the chess program from 9:00-3:00, we have an optional 3:00-5:00 extension with a mix of other activities, including art, music, and math.
Find out why so many chess players claim that camp is the best place to learn chess! “My son Jacob has reminded me multiple times since last year to sign him up for chess camp 2 weeks for this year. He is so looking forward to it!“ (Lihe Y., the mother of a 6 yo child).
It's time to secure your child's spot!

Head Coaches
Owulaseun (Seun) Bisiriyu, USCF National Master, is passionate about teaching chess. He introduced the Chess Aided Mathematics Program back in Nigeria as an experiment to help kids with issues in mathematics. The result was fantastic and since then he’s been a strong believer that chess has to be a part of every child’s education, and has taught chess in various schools and settings. Seun was a part of the Do-Re-Mi faculty between 2016-2022 and we are glad to welcome him back this summer.
Seun is a lifelong learner whose current certifications include:
FIDE Certified School Instructor (SI) and Lead School Instructor (Teacher Trainer)
FIDE National Arbiter
US Chess Federation Club Tournament Director
Maxim (Max) Farberov earned his USCF National Master title in 2023 and is still an active player competing in tournaments of different levels, currently ranking 98.7%. Max has been a top player since youth and won the New Jersey Scholastic Championship in 2011. He served as the President of the Rutgers Chess Club and captain of the chess team.
He has played competitively for 20 years and taught for the past 10 in many after-school programs and chess schools. He has taught at Do-Re-Mi since Spring 2021 with the number of students and their ratings consistently growing, and was our Camp director last summer. He earned a certification as a USCF Club Tournament Director in 2022. Max says, attending a summer camp as a child ignited his desire to study and improve at the game!
